How To Connect Your Twitter Account with Bit Social

Setup for Api Version 1.1 (Media Supported)

For the Custom App Method, start by visiting the Twitter Developer site and navigating to the Developer Portal. There, you’ll need to create a project and an app to establish a connection with Twitter.

Please follow the steps below to create a Twitter App and add your accounts using this App:

First, go to Twitter Developer. Click on “Developer Portal” at the top-right corner, then select “Projects & Apps.

To create a Project and App in Twitter Developer, follow these steps:

  • First, click on “Add Project.”
  • Enter a name, use case, and project description for your project.
  • Next, set up your app.
  • Provide a unique name for your app and click “Next.”
  • Your project and app will be created successfully.

If you already have a project and app in Twitter Developer, you can either edit the project and rename it as you like or delete the project and app and start fresh by creating a new project and app from scratch.

You need to set up your User Authentication settings. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Start by clicking on “Your apps.”
  • In the settings section, scroll down and find “User authentication settings.” Click on “Set up.”
  • Grant Read and Write permissions for App permission.
  • Choose Web App, Automated App or Bot for the Type of App.
  • In the App Info section, enter your Redirect URI in the Callback URI/Redirect URL field. To find your Redirect URI, go to Bit Social Home, add an account, and click on Connect Account. Under Twitter, click on “Custom App.” Your Redirect URI will be displayed.
  • Use your Homepage URL for the Website URL field.
  • Finally, click on “Save.”

To get your API Key and API Key Secret, Follow these steps:

  • Start by navigating to your App and then head to the Key and Tokens section.
  • Here, regenerate your API key and Secret under Consumer Keys.
  • Copy both your API key and API Key Secret.
  • Next, paste these copied keys into the corresponding fields for API key and API Key Secret in Bit Social to establish a connection with Twitter using the Custom App Method.
  • Now, assign a name and select an API version.
  • After that, click on the “Add” button.
  • Under Connected Apps, click on “Connect.”
  • Proceed to authorize your app.
  • Finally, click on the Save button.

There are two API versions available: v1.1 and v2.0. In v1.1, media is supported, allowing you to share your media. However, in v2.0, media is not supported, meaning you cannot share your media on Twitter using Bit Social.

Setup for Api Version 2.0 (Media Unsupported)

  • Open your app and navigate to the “Keys and Tokens” section.
  • Scroll down to find the “OAuth 2.0 Client ID and Client Secret” area.
  • Regenerate your Client Secret.
  • Copy both your Client ID and Client Secret.
  • Go to Bit Social and add a new connection.
  • Under Twitter, select the “Custom App” option.
  • Now, assign a name and select an API version.
  • Enter your Client ID as the API Key and your Client Secret as the API Secret.
  • After that, click on the “Add” button.
  • Under Connected Apps, click on “Connect.”
  • Proceed to authorize your app.
  • Finally, click on the Save button.

After connecting your account, you can automatically share your WordPress posts, schedule your posts, and share posts instantly.
